The Last Mermaid #5 again reads like enhanced storyboards for an animated feature without feeling like a studio pitch disguised as a comic book. That makes for another thrilling, masterly crafted installment of one of 2024's best new series. Read Full Review

Speaking of the mutant chase, that was a great sequence! Kim kicks up the action with a high speed chase. Each panel fell like an animation cell. If you were to cut the out and form a flip book, I imagine it would animate the scene in a thrilling way! Read Full Review

The story itself is mostly enjoyable and the art is outstanding but I'm afraid it's kind of let down by some atrocious dialogue. He keeps mentioning its going to get a lot darker with a parental guidance rating and yet some of the dialogue is really for a 10 year old with a couple of really needless swear words. Sorry I hope Derek dosn't take this badly but with a professional writer and his amazing art this comic could be a must read.
