Laura Braga's line work is still rather great, though there are some inconsistencies in this issue regarding fine details. To her credit, much of this issue relies on dialogue, and I suppose there are only so many angles you can show one person talking to another person. As usual, Pezzini is absolutely gorgeous, and there is one scene in particular " where she recalls how she lost her daughter while holding a teddy bear " that was pure brilliance. Read Full Review
On the whole then, Witchblade #177 is an enjoyable issue. Newcomers can start reading here with little problems, and its highly recommended as it does deserve a lot more attention. Hopefully the set up that this issue builds will pay off next time around, because the cliffhanger ending has left things very interesting indeed. Read Full Review
Generally, the storyline is great. It's a setup issue, has to deal with continuity, and is a bit slow in places, but it is a good jumping-on point. Despite being a big Darkness fan, foreknowledge or fandom are certainly not prerequisites. There's some nice, oppressive urban art, rickety, atmospheric interiors and colours are both strong and subtle. What's not to love? Well, it's the faces, specifically of the sidekick character but of the protagonist also. It's distracting and disappointing how weak some of the drawing is, with some really manic or oddly proportioned expressions that a major negative on an otherwise impressive issue. Sort of surprised with the poor reception by the critics. I quite liked this issue. Ron Marz continues to entertain with beautiful art by Laura Braga.
The gang is back together. After a single issue hiatus Laura Braga is back with Betsy Gonia and Ron Marz. I'm glad to see her back and in full form with her beautiful rendition of the Witchblade. Ron Marz does a great job with the story, however I did find the initial jump right into action a little confusing considering where we left off last issue. This issue builds on the events from the first arc with the Angelus while also opening the door to the upcoming Darkness Falls arc. The final pages alone make me with it was September.
