Buckle up for wild stunts, emotional gut-punches, and the beginning of a bond that could save Speed’s life…if it doesn’t wreck him first!
This issue really brings some different emotions to the arc. David Pepose does a fantastic job of showing the litany of emotions that are driving Speed in this story. Well at the same time advancing and moving the story forward with Racer X. The bumbling master criminal Ace Deucey brings a bit of comic relief to the pretty serious tone of the story as well. Overall, Pepose shows why he is one of the best at bringing human emotion to a story. Read Full Review

SPEED RACER #3 roars off the line with smart writing and wild art, leaving only a few bumps in its wake; a bracing shot of adrenaline with a family-sized heart. Even when the plot stumbles, the energy never lets up, and this issue proves it: Formula X isn't for tourists, and neither is sharp, kinetic comic storytelling Read Full Review

Speed Racer #3 works well enough. Its unfortunate that how the Racer X component is received depends on whether or not the reader comes into the issue with knowledge gleaned from another series. This quality keeps the issue from reaching the same heights as the first two issues. Despite that, though, Speed Racer #3 finishes up as a good character story for Speed. Read Full Review
Speed Racer #3 was as fun as the first two - Pepose & Tinto clearly know how to capture speed and motion on the comic page. The races always feel exciting. This issue gave more depth to the cartoony plot … but the Racer X spin-off book undercut all of the intrigue this story had to offer and frankly didn’t really mesh with the vibe of this comic. My only other complaint is how many times the character of Ace Deucey said his own name … that was weird. All-in-all … Speed Racer is delivering a fun and well written comic that anyone can enjoy, if you like all-ages escapism … Speed Racer is the book for you.
