THE GHOST WALKS AGAIN! The Phantom returns! Created by Lee Falks in 1936, the Phantom is one of the first costumed super heroes in history, with untold influence on pop culture. Now, critically-acclaimed creators Ray Fawkes and Russell Olson revive the character for fans old and new. When a violent gang of smugglers stubbles on an idyllic Bandar village, the peace that the Phantom has brought to the African nation of Bangalla will suddenly shatter. It will take all of the Phantom’s many skills — and allies — to restore it. The most exciting series of the year starts here!

Nerd Initiative - Richard Coryell Sep 24, 2025

The first issue of The Phantom dives right into the story and hits the ground running. Ray Fawkes wastes no time putting the reader in the thick of things, well giving enough backstory for those who may not know the character. This method makes for an exciting first issue that skips past the things that usually bog down a first issue. The action comes hot and heavy which really makes for a fun and exciting read. Couple that with an intense cliffhanger ending, and you have a homerun of a first issue. Read Full Review

Pastrami Nation - Daniel Schwartz Sep 25, 2025

Like the writer, artist Russell Olson perfectly balances the campy with the serious subject matter. The drug kingpin Asif Singh has a threatening look and jumps off the page as a terrifying villain. Read Full Review

Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson Sep 29, 2025

While I'm not a massive fan of The Phantom in general, this issue marries well-rendered art with a script that manages to address the character's relevance and longevity without being ham-fisted about it, and I'm here for it all. Read Full Review

Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez Sep 25, 2025

If Russell Olson's art had sharper vision and the pacing learned when to hit the brakes, THE PHANTOM #1 would be a knockout. Instead, it's a thrill ride with a cracked windshield. The writing is fast and ferocious, the heroes and villains memorable, but some panels need rescuing just as badly as the villagers do. Grab it for the witty heroics and jungle mayhem, but keep one eye open for what gets lost in the leaves. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett Sep 24, 2025

The Phantom #1 isn't bad but it also is rather odd. The narrative focus seems to jump around a bit and the story overall doesn't deliver much that's new. It also doesn't lean into its classic pulp vibes enough instead, it just kind of is. A find comic to read but when there's so much out there now, it doesn't deliver anything new or exciting to stand out. Read Full Review
