    Major Spoilers - Dave Conde

The only part that bothered me was the design of the Richards children. Their proportions looked just a little off, such that they reminded me of Judd Winick's Barry Ween, Boy Genius, which was distracting. Any issues I may have had there are completely forgiven, however, after looking at Walker's drawings of the Thing, which among the best I've seen. He makes a guy made of orange rocks look realistic, and that's even harder to do than it sounds.THE BOTTOM LINE: ACTION IS HIS (AND YOUR) REWARD! Read Full Review

If books like Wolverine and the X-Men don't completely fulfill your desire for goofy superhero antics this week, you might consider giving this annual a try. Read Full Review

"Avenging Spider-Man Annual" #1 isn't the most important comic to hit the stands, but it is guaranteed to please. This is the sort of Spider-Man comic that transcends time. Anyone in any place at any time can enjoy it for what it is: hilarious. Don't expect revelations to drop from the sky or Spidey's world to be irrevocably changed. Come in, laugh and keep it up until the last page. This issue knows exactly how to bring the fun you want from a Spidey comic. Read Full Review

If this issue had been a few pages shorter, I might have enjoyed it more but the lackluster setup and the length had me wishing it were a little more tight in the story department. Still… fun issue. I'm just not sure it's worth the "annual" price of $5 unless you're just a Spidey completist like myself and would be getting the issue anyway. Read Full Review

Like I said, at it's core the idea behind this issue is a good one. I felt the issue's focus on compassion was great, but that this good idea could have been better executed. The very start of the comic gives us some great examples of bad dialogue and unnecessary pop culture references and jokes that just simply aren't funny -- as though the writer was just trying way too hard. Having said that, the writing and the dialogue does improve. After both Spider-Man and Thing team up to work together in the issue, the comic definitely improves. Overall, I thought the art was great. The panels are really well organized and the art, in general, was really pretty (save for the fact that we can see Spider-Man's toes). In general, this is an alright self-contained story. I'm not sure if it's a comic I would go out of my way to get, but it could definitely have been worse. Read Full Review

Not a book to change your life, and not a story that really justifies the 27-page count on any basis save squeezing out an extra buck. But for anyone who's got a soft spot for the heroes involved, you could absolutely do worse. Read Full Review

Well this was bad.... that's not the way you sell a comic, especially an annual. Don't get me wrong, I like comedic comics, I enjoy Deadpool and Empowered and any other comic that tries to get laughs.... but this was horrible and I REALLY could've done without seeing The Spider-Thing kissing hybrid. Instead of a line of the issue, here's a Second Opinion by my buddy X. Read Full Review
