While Ben, Johnny & Sue are fighting against Tyros for their lives, the Silver Surfer arrives on the scene and a match of cosmic powered entities ensues. At the battle's conclusion, Doom is seemingly vaporized, & the three FF members assume he is dead (bad assumption). Meanwhile, Reed is mysteriously missing. (Cover date: November, 1983)

This was a really interesting issue because you know Doom isn't dead. There's a setup for him to return. Just wondering how Byrne was going to pull it off. THat's what makes Byrne so great is his set up and then delivery several issues later.
