Magik #6 is yet another shining example of the exemplary work that Ashley Allen is doing with Illyana Rasputina on this book. Each issue delves deeper and deeper into Illyana's interiority and explores what motivates and troubles the character. This book is by far one of the most definitive runs to feature Illyana Rasputina as Magik, and it is refreshing to see how Illyana is being characterized by a competent and capable writer who understands her the way that Ashley Allen does. It was an absolute joy to see Maddie Pryor back as the ruler of Limbo. Illyana going back to Limbo willingly certainly wasn't what I expected from this run, so it was a lot of fun to see, especially when she's there to help Maddie. Read Full Review

This was a fantastic 1-off issue, with strong character development for both Magik and Madelyne Pryor. Moreover, it finally justifies the move to have Magik give up rulership of Limbo to the Goblin Queen after previous stories failed to do so and treated the whole thing as a joke rather than as something that has serious consequences, as they should have done from the start.

The issue does not get a 10 solely because the art is not up to the high standard of the first 5 issues with the fill-in artist, but that is hardly enough to bring it down.

Resurrecting Madelyne Pryor was one of Marvel's worst decisions of the last few decades. It completely eradicated the impact of Inferno and gave us a Goblin Queen without sense or purpose. For this reason alone, the story doesn't work. And then there's the art, which is not the worst I've ever seen, but also not great.
