The Demon Bear transports the New Mutants to the Badlands to more easily defeat them. It turns two humans from the hospital into demons to aid it. Illyana must maintain her wards around the operating room to keep the Demon Bear from killing Dani. After a fierce battle between the two forces, Illyana uses her Soulsword to split the Demon Bear in two, & Dani's parents emerge from it. They had been drawn into the Demon Bear by some malevolent force. Back at the hospital, Dani is alive but is paralyzed from her wounds. Storm summons the Morlock Healer to heal her. Xavier says the malevolence behind the Demon Bear is something that only Doctor Strange can deal with. (Cover date: October, 1984)

Very good start for this whole arc but the climax is too deux ex machina and rushed.
