I truly love what the creators are trying to do here (the way this issue hooks the premise into established continuity is terrific), but I'm not blind to the weak spots in their execution. The writing is uneven, particularly when it comes to pacing and characterization. The art is generally stronger, but it's not without its soft spots. I expect I'll end up filing this series in the "ambitious but flawed" drawer.

While Jason Loo surely has talent, it is not much on display in his 'Sentry'. Predictable, shallow, and drama-less, this book has little to offer fans of the Sentry, and does little to redeem the concept in the eyes of those for whom their disdain may already be baked in. The villain seems a thinly veiled 'Take that!' aimed towards obnoxious fanboys who only ever cared about the feats and powers of the Sentry, and the protagonist feels underdeveloped three issues in. The time spent faffing about with Jessica Jones and Misty Knight solving a 'mystery' that the audience already knew the answer to could've been better spent elsewhere.

With too much packed into too small a space, none of the story beats offered are being served well. more
