If there's a glaring downside, it's that fans won't know when we're going to get another taste of the Young Avengers. Reading this issue made me realize how much we need a Young Avengers monthly book. These characters have been stuck in limbo for a bit too long. An event mini series here and there does nothing substantial for them. I understand why Marvel wants to wait for the original blockbuster creative team of Jimmy Cheung and writer Alan Heinberg. However with Heinberg being a television/movie writer his main focus is not comics. I love the creative team but I think I love the characters more. With the recent announcement of the YA: Children's Crusade Marvel will have their wish and I hope afterwards they will move the characters on and if necessary away from their "parents". While Asrar hasn't fully come into a style that's immediately identifiable as his own, he's still done exceptional work here. Just as it was the case for Siege: Captain America, this was a lot better executed than a cross-over tie-in usually needs to be. Siege Young Avengers was a decent read, I felt it was still worth the 2.99 despite its failings. Young Avengers fans have read better, such as the excellent Dark Reign mini, but for a one-shot involved in such a boring event McKeever did his best and I applaud him for it. This issue was very, very close to Buy It territory, but couldn't quite make it because of its major lack of a point. Big fans of the creative team or the characters will enjoy the issue, but nothing about this really demands that it be read by the casual fan. The story never gets off its feet and despite taking place during Siege, it really has nothing to do with the main story. I like the craft and I love the characters, but there isn't enough meat to justify a stronger verdict. Read Full Review

In fact, Asrar does a very good job of making this feel like a natural continuation of the Young Avengers' story. McKeever's writing also maintains the quality I expect from a Young Avengers project. The only real drawback is that there isn't much reason for this comic to exist, other than to keep our Young Avengers appetites whetted. Read Full Review
