Karla Pacheco tries mightily to make the Contest engaging. Her two secret weapons: protagonists who are too smart to fall for the event's lame "you two fight now" mind control, and a lot of intriguing, rapid-fire world-building. Sadly, the visuals leave a lot of the script's potential (particularly on the latter front) unrealized.

Big picture event complaining: In this episode, White Fox is persuaded to participate by appealing to basic "you gotta save the world" heroic principles. I'm pretty sure that'd work on ALL the "champions" collected so far--so why the fighting rigamarole? It's not the plot hole that irritates me as much as the CERTAINTY that the explanation for it will be "something something chaos chaos yadda yadda."
