Well, that spider's lab could turn people into spiders. When Spidey got to that lab, his appearance started some mechanism and electric ray hit the SHIELD agent. In the beginning of this issue authors introduced him to us just to make us feel bad for this character. He become man-spider and there was a fight with even more SHIELD agents. Goblin's mechanism was destroyed and they teased us Venom, but I still think, that the potential of that cliffhanger was lost.
