Aug 19, 2026Spider-Man is Marvel’s most relatable hero and the Hulk is their greatest monster, so putting them together is always a lot of fun. Smith and McElfresh take a story that could have been something of a cliche – the two fighting then teaming up or some other kind of story we’ve gotten before – and make into something that fans have never experienced before, which is rare. Bringing faith to Bruce Banner’s struggle with the Hulk is very different from what’s come before and Smith is exactly the right writer for this story. It’ll be interesting to see how far this story goes – will Smith and McElfresh deal with One Below All or will this be one of those semi-canon stories that deals with what the writers want them to instead of current continuity? – but even without that, it has some novelty to it that makes it a must-read. Writers Kevin Smith and Andy McElfresh, along with artist R.B. Silva wonderfully craft a fresh and unique story that sees Bruce Banner turn to faith as a way to tame his anger. The barrage of puns and extended opening battle give it an old-school Marvel energy, while the Catholic imagery and hints of a larger examination of masculinity add unexpected weight. R.B. Silva makes the superhero spectacle sing, and the cliffhanger suggests there's much more behind this seemingly goofy team-up. A wildly entertaining Marvel throwback with a surprisingly sharp edge. Aug 24, 2026Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone #1 has a fantastic premise, even if it starts a little clunky before finding its way in the third act. Writers Kevin Smith and Andy McElfresh bring a fresh perspective to a tale as old as the Hulk himself, asking how Bruce Banner can finally get rid of the Hulk that lives deep inside him. In this iteration, Banner has turned to a higher power in hopes that he can no longer live under the thumb of the Big Green Monster. This first entry into the new series took a while to get going, but it closed with a bang. Let's hope that momentum continues for the rest of the series. Read Full Review

Not much to see here unfortunately, at least from my perspective. I saw Kevin Smith on the cover and figured I would give it a chance. The art is not bad, but just another Spider-Man taking on a bunch of baddies, making way too many bad puns. I get it, it is Spider-Man but dialogue is just too much, though I suppose that should be expected from Kevin Smith. Hulk funds religion. Not unreadable but if you haven’t tried it yet probably better if you left it on the shelf. Not going back for the second installment.

Kevin Smith cannot help himself and the lame outdated dialog and jokes overshadow what should be a home run for everyone on the book. instead it's a huge miss. We get small bits of cool moments but the bad well overshadows the good. I almost thought it was Deadpool dressed as Spider-man. RB silva is an amazing artist but even he cannot save the outwit annoying writing on this book. really bad stuff.
