Reading Anakin's exploits will put his ultimate transition into Darth Vader in the back of your mind, as the compelling adventure and action-packed art deliver a much more heroic warrior in the Clone Wars before his fall from grace. Read Full Review
Anakin's not the easiest character to write for due to a range of reasons and that makes this a bit of a rough book. I like the character in the grand sweep of things and the TV series helped to ease some of those issues. The one-off nature of this is something that definitely doesn't get to dig into things as much as it could or should, especially like a TV episode would, but the pieces it needs are there and Houser works it well enough. I really liked the artwork in the opening pages but it felt like it got weaker or simpler as it went along, but never to a point of feeling like it was just bad. It's a little mixed but serviceable enough. Read Full Review
Continuing the trend of Jango #1's brisk and efficient pacing, this issue allows plenty of breathing room for the character to think and for the writer to deliver a well-rounded, complete tale. For the first few issues, Age of Republic was a beautiful but shallow series with wordy scripts that only got in the way. It has quickly become a series with thoughtful Star Wars stories and lore-building dialogue that rivals the (still outstanding) artwork. Read Full Review
"Anakin Skywalker #1" is a well-written Clone Wars story that handles some fairly deep ideas and emotional decisions at a quick clip. Read Full Review
This has a great conundrum for Anakin, but the visuals bring it down. I was incredibly pleased with the devious plan by the Separatists and I liked that Anakin is still a Jedi, rather than going sinister in his dialogue. The visuals, across the board, do not help the story. They are too simplistic, plus the colors being too dark in several instances, and the letters being disappointing at times. I'm really on board for Houser to write more Star Wars tales, but the rest of this looks like a Marvel Try-Out Book submission. Read Full Review
Anakin's story is very loyal to the character. Once again there is a lot to like with these short stories.
Jody Houser contunines to put out Star Wars issues with amazing characterization. She captured the voices of Anakin and Obi-Wan perfectly. Coupled with great artwork and a nice story, this makes for a great issue!
