Han and his friends go on a rescue mission to save one of their own with surprising consequences. I love that there were several unexpected moments in this final issue, making me want to see Thompson return to these characters' exploits. I liked the visuals which created the polish and the chaos that the Empire maintains and creates. Marvel should have another look into Solo's Imperial days as soon as possible. Excellent reading for a missing chapter in the life of one of Star Wars' most famous characters. Read Full Review
With a focus on Han being chewed out to realize what the Empire needs are soldiers and not heroes, and that he needs to understand the difference and fall in line, this miniseries makes it clear that it's not a difference he wants to partake in. He's got more time as a cadet ahead of him and I'm curious to see more of it, though I'd like to get a whole new team to provide this look in showing the evolution of the character – which is admittedly minimal compared to how we see him at the start of the film. This wasn't a bad series as it delved into his first days flying but it felt like some missed opportunities and not a clear enough narrative overall beyond making it clear that Han is not Imperial material. I'm still like the character a whole lot and the arc over the various media is intriguing, and I'd like to see more, both pre and post-film. Read Full Review
The book continues to be a serviceable sci-fi with equal parts action and humor, but leaves devout Star Wars fanatics wanting more. Read Full Review
Star Wars: Han Solo - Imperial Cadet #5 is not the worst issue in the series. It isn’t as maddening as the first two were. Sure, It would be maddening as a finale if the series were better because it does so little for the story and characters. A single (and improperly built-to) interaction is the whole comic but… there wasn’t much here to disservice in the first place. Read Full Review
I would say this stays pretty loyal to the Han Solo we see at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story. We get to see him be that hero we know.
