Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances #3 delivers the next phase of the story as Thrawn and Darth Vader confront their mysterious attackers, the alien Grysks. The comic does a solid job in handling the past and present storylines so that they parallel each other's progress and converge well. It's also great to see the Stormtroopers actually be useful and formidable for once in Star Wars. Read Full Review
Another issue of Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances, another adventure in exposition dumps that feel entirely weightless. It's not even that this book is bad, necessarily, as it does manage to offer an interesting dynamic between both Thrawn and Anakin and Thrawn and Darth Vader, but the missions both pairs are on feel entirely inconsequential and irrelevant to anything previously established in the franchise. I was really looking forward to this book as I had just started reading the novel as well, but the way it's written is just too hard to manage. The story switching back and forth every two pages is jolting. I'm having a hard time keeping up with what's going on as I can't remember what plot beats go with what story and I don't see any connection between them. Plus Thrawn seems to order Vader around at times and I don't see that ever going well. They should have just done two separate books like the One Hand did.
