If I had to nitpick, I would have to say I find Slineys concept of pained expressions a bit skewed. Half the time Annabelle, in moments of fear, pain, or surprise, was just smiling. Which, unless youre implying that theres some sinister and as-of-yet unknown reason why she would be smiling while getting smacked around, is absurdly out of place. Other than that, this was a solid and engaging issue with enough heart to balance out the action. Read Full Review

There's something to be said about a series with an excellent concept, but with an execution that does it no favours. For a book about a team-up between at least a dozen big name female Marvel characters, Cullen Bunn's continued focus on only a select few feels like he's limiting the scope of the book more than anything. For their sixth issue together, Bunn and Sliney provide a middle-of-the-road conclusion that neither wows nor disappoints. With Bunn's knack for character development, however, the book stays solid and maintains its potential. The very last page of the story certainly sets up for a foreboding new arc that will be sure to hook new and old readers alike. Read Full Review
The Fearless Defenders #6 rounds out the opening arc and sets up some intriguing hints of things to come. However, for all its drama and grandeur, it feels like it's outsourcing the story to its readers; asking us to fill in the pathos we've seen in better tellings of the same archetypal struggles.
