It's okay, but Margaret Stohl's growing pains as a comic writer are still evident. The pacing compresses everything important toward the end and the art does little to enhance what should be emotional moments. Read Full Review
Unfortunately, the positives dont overpower the banality of Captain Marvel #8. Its a pretty perfunctory comic whose only addition is killing of a character that we never really got to know but had plenty of potential now wasted. I cant recommend this one, which sucks because I love the character of Carol Danvers. Shes one of the most badass heroes in the Marvel Universe. Read Full Review
After a promising start, Stohl's run was derailed by its tie-in arc that has been mediocre mess from start to finish, doing little interesting with its cast despite the admirable attempt to build uo supporting characters for Carol.
Cap'n Marvel rehashes her part in the end of Secret Empire at greater length than SE #8, but somehow provides *less* depth. Cliched dialogue, repetitive plot points, and continuity clashes aplenty. The artwork is still decently finished, but now I'm finally putting two and two together: Margaret Stohl's scripts are lifeless and need help connecting with the reader? That's a job the art *should* be doing, but isn't.
