Once again, Brian Michael Bendis creeps me out by his uncanny ability to write engaging and realistic teen characters in the most unusual and unrealistic of circumstances. This issue strays away from the action for the most part and instead focuses on the most mundane of teenage activities. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #9 was another phenomenal read. Bendis continues to be money on this title. With an excellent mix of action, comedy, and character interactions Ultimate Comics Spider-Man continues to be one of the best comics on the market right now. Ultimate Spider-man remains a perfect gateway into modern comics. I think the genre is probably the best fit for Bendis' dialog and the stories are fun, exciting, and easily accessible. It's really very refreshing to read such a fun story, and it made me laugh and smile to see Peter hanging out with all his fun friends. This isn't the same old brooding Peter Parker that Steve Ditko used to draw, but who cares? It's David Lafuente's book now. This hasn't been the strongest issue of the series, but it is still a great series none-the-less. If you want to keep your run going, or see how the whole Spider-Woman thing turns out, pick up the book. If you're a casual reader of the series, you may want to pass. The relaunch of "Ultimate Spider-Man" as... "Ultimate Spider-Man" seems slightly pointless. (Did anyone else notice that the whole "Ultimate Comics" brand never actually appeared aside from in solicitations? Seriously, look at the covers as well as the indicia at the end of each issue, it's not there.) At its core, this is really just "Ultimate Spider-Man" #142.
