After reading the first of Kirkman's and Raney's Ultimate X-Men, I can safely say with confidence that this book shall stay on the top of my list for a few months to come. Great characterizations built on funny and just downright cool individual stories, coupled with a great promise of what's to come and solid artwork, Kirkman's X-Men is a winner and for this old fan, it's one heck of a relief. Well... You know, I love Kirkman, so I thought it would be like the best writing on this series. But no, it's so mediocre... Every X-pair has here their own story, they are parallel and not even interesting. Some characters got more time and some (like Kitty and Spidey) only one panel. There's so much sex, which is pretty questionable, because it was really unexpected to see an emphasis on it. I hate the idea that Bobby and Marian are couple again. Plus this Lilandra is just bad in comparison with the original. And Shi'ar is a religious cult here. I don't like the art here as well, Tom made a better work for the annual. The cover is also misleading.
