Whilst the writing is definite improvement and pushes the story further forward that can not unfortunately be said about the art. Don't get me wrong it is by no means horrible, I have seen worse *cough* Liefeld *cough* but it isn't as good as previous artists have handled the character. For example one of my favourite aspects of the art throughout its run is whenever Flash loses control of the symbiote and it goes from the military suit to a more classic Venom. Granted in this situation there is a slight difference afterall since he is being possessed by a demon but the addition of horns makes him look stupid. Hellboy he is not. The wings also don't do him any favours. Since it's not as action focused as the last issue the problem of just being reactionary art isn't an issue and for that I am grateful and apart from the gripes I've made it is solid. Obvious Demon element aside, Monsters of Evil feels a lot like Circle of Four to me. This series has seen some stellar moments, but just like CoF, this story arc is feeling mediocre in comparison. Despite enjoyable artwork and a few laughs, I can't help but feel like this will wrap up quickly and we'll move on without these events truly holding a spot in our memories. Read Full Review

The artwork by Thony Silas might be part of the reason this story doesn't have as big an impact as it strives for. The symbiote looks like a garish cartoon with its distorted proportions and a tongue that is perhaps too long and wild even for Venom. It's hard to take the story seriously when the art doesn't seem to. Bunn's ideas here are solid, but he and Silas miss the mark in their execution. Read Full Review

Still, I thought the same thing when 'Circle of Four' started so I'm willing to give the rest of this arc a chance. I just can't recommend it very highly to those who are looking for a good Venom story. Here's hoping that the upcoming 'Minimum Carnage' cross-over and Venom's pending move from NYC to Philly will shakes things up and get this title back on some good old fashioned military style Venom tales.
