Feb 28, 2024Overall, Women of Marvel #1 is a worthy read well worth the price of admission. It features fun tales, some a bit too short for their own good, but a nice curation of heroes doing their thing. Read Full Review

Mar 29, 2024Overall, this comic was great. So many diverse characters as well as some of my favorites. I'm hoping that the second issue will bring more women to the forefront, so that many people can read about their stories. Each woman is amazing at fighting crime, and working together. The lead strip is a hilarious and beautifully drawn meta-narrative about females in fiction. It's enjoyable on a superficial level, but it also provides real food for thought.
I'd argue that the one-page Squirrel Girl strip is also worth some scrutiny, believe it or not. Is it just ripping off the infamous "lady hero roll call" scene from Avengers: Endgame? Or, by replacing female heroes with animal heroes, is it critiquing the original? Calling it dehumanizing? Well, probably not. But I WISH it were.
The Scarlet Witch and Black Widow strips are enjoyable if not particularly substantial. Even Madame Web's "shill for upcoming comics" strip is at least drawn well.
I'll say once again that I appreciate the way Marvel more+ Like • Comment -
