Apr 29, 2026As far as a Hollywood Hills murder story goes, it’s doing exactly what one would expect. Setting up a few red herrings, the detective in the form of Patsy Walker and Simon in the role of unlucky man at the center of it all. There’s enough intrigue in Simon’s dynamic with his brother, but more time to show why one would want Simon and Patsy to work out would be nice, instead of the paint-by-numbers genre the pair currently feel like. A new artist already? With Stefano Raffaele we don’t get the weird inks this issue (except in the flashbacks Buckingham did), but unfortunately, the facial expressions come across as bland and emotionless, which creates a weird contradiction to the story that focuses on the human side of superheroes. All in all, I still thought this was fun and entertaining.

This series is an odd case. The logo finally got some personality, but Buckingham is, suddenly, barely doing anything here, with Raffaele taking the majority of the interior duty. I'm not complaining about Raffaele, as I think he's a good artist who did good work here, but I really like Buckingham's work and I him being on this series was one of the things that got me interested initially. In any case, I think I would have liked this more had it not made me feel like things were jumping around in the story a little too much. It almost reads like Duggan wanted this to be an ongoing and had planned for it to be, but ended up having to stuff his ideas into a miniseries instead.
