What have Havok, Polaris and Marvel Girl been up lately? The word of their return should be enough to get you to read this issue. Rogue, Magneto, Gambit and Frenzy travel across space in order to find them and jump right into the middle of a big mess. The characterization of everyone is spot on and you really get a sense that the X-Men might be in over their heads. The fact that this story arc is contained in the pages of this series and isn't spilling into other X-titles. Because this is the first part of the arc, the story needs to be set up which takes away from the action. There is a nice cliffhanger that will ensure that you return for the next issue. I have no idea what to make of this issue. There wasn't anything really wrong with the book but something was missing. There was no excitement. No holy crap moment that just makes you crave the next issue. Read Full Review
As many positive aspects as the X-Men's recent domestic struggles may have had, this issue instantly raises the bar. Suayan's artwork definitely isn't the selling point here, but it's not so bad that it ruin's Carey's exciting new feel for the series. It's hard to see how this series is going to be anything but a rollicking good time from here. Read Full Review
At this point in the arc, there's little that can be definitively praised, with the bulk of the story setting up dominoes to knock down later. Still, Rachel, Polaris and Havok do get some panel time, and for the majority of this book's readership, well, that's probably enough. Read Full Review
The story isn't bad in itself--Carey's got a good handle on these characters--it's just not the sort of story I tend to enjoy as much. The art's good, and fits with what I expect for these characters...no problems there. Overall, not a bad start to a new arc; though if you're not into X-Men-in-space adventures, this arc might be one you'd want to skip. Read Full Review
