People live. People die. The "good" are pleasantly escorted off to Heaven; while the rest unceremoniously rots in Hell. Hell - a world where torture isn't retribution, it's just hazing. Isaiah Jefferson fancied himself a dashing rogue; the greatest thief of the Great Depression, but a cruel betrayal left him dead in the dirt. Heavenly Blues #1 is a beautiful and cleverly-written book blends dry humor and supernatural elements into an intriguing heist tale. Kahn's pacing makes the first issue feel like the opening chapter in an exciting serialized radio drama, a talent that's surprisingly rare to find in a medium based on monthly issues. While only being a first issue, Heavenly Blues #1 does a very good job of introducing readers to the two main leads and their relationship dynamic. While there isn't an overflowing amount of action or deep plot development, it's just enough to hook you in and wonder what sort of trouble Isaiah and Erin are about to get themselves into.
