Blood Bowl is based on a popular board game that I have no experience with. You don't need that in order to enjoy this comic. It's like Space Jam, but instead of a team of cartoons going up against a team of awkward monsters, it's a rough group of humans (one of which has a hook for a hand) against snarling beasts capable of ripping out a man's throat. Oh, and it's football instead of basketball. OK, I'm not that good at comparisons like this. In any case, if you've ever watched a sports movie and wanted it to include orcs, giants, or other assorted monsters instead of some rich blonde kid from the '80s, Blood Bowl is for you. I didn't go into Blood Bowl expecting high end material in a sense but rather looking for a well put together book that was fun. Kyme gives us a character to rally around and can bring out the rest of the team as time goes on while taking time here to establish the basics and throw us into a few matches and what they're like. It works well but is made more enjoyable thanks to some great artwork from Jack Jadson and the team. What they bring to the page here is bright and colorful without being cartoonish and it just has a sense of silliness and bloodiness that works very well together. It's a fun book that hits the right notes and works better than it should in a lot of ways. Read Full Review

American football has been in any number of media, some good, some bad. Blood Bowl is probably one of themore popular applications of the sport, from the UK, which isn't as ironic as you may think, being as the games origins date back to rugby. Still, despite the high calibre of the production values on show, in a similar vein to Freeway Fighter, I am not sure of the attraction of comic based on a board game where you have a sense of control. If you're a fan of the board game then you'll likely get a kick out of this, but its going to be a really hard sell for casual readers given the fairly uninspired and safe story. The artwork is well worth a look, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go, and in a world of exciting and inventive comic books based on licensed content, Blood Bowl: More Guts, More Glory finds itself getting sacked before it has even crossed the line of scrimmage.
