Roku #1 is a mystery about Roku's past as much as it is about her present. Who are her employers, and what is this weapon they want? This is a great jumping-on point for new readers, especially for those new to the Valiant Universe. It doesn't fully address her whole story, particularly her past and origin story which was somewhat explored in Ninjak, but it doesn't really matter either. It just fills in a few gaps in her story, which apparently there are plenty of. Read Full Review
In Roku, there is plenty of suspense and spy craft throughout the story, and more than a fair amount of untrustworthy characters including Roku herself. What she doesn't know looks like it might get her killed. Read Full Review
Ultimately a fun book, and one that Valiant fans should pick up. Whether it'll attract new readers remains to be seen. Read Full Review
'Roku' #1 debuts with guns (and hair) blazing. It's wall-to-wall action that will feel familiar but executed so well it won't matter that you've seen some version of this assassin tale. Cullen, Bachs, and Paitreau bring their A-game for this exciting new series that is pure adrenaline. Read Full Review

You'll come to love her among many of the deadliest comic characters Valiant has to offer through the events of this first issue. Overall I enjoyed Roku #1. It was a solid first issue and easy for a new reader to jump into. I don't know how well it gets me involved or invested in the character, but it is a solid first start. It feels like a "What If"" story if Marvel combined Medusa and Black Widow with some psychic powers. Which isn't a bad idea. Despite a few technical things, overall, I dug the art as well. The more animated styling felt at home with the writing of the character. Read Full Review
While the plot is rather standard, there are a few fun touches that should make this comic enjoyable to Valiant fans and those looking for a enjoyably violent superhero comic. Read Full Review
I remember Valiant from way back when. Now, a after pretty decent re-start a few years back, the company seems to have fallen into the habit of rehashing Divinity series, or Bloodshot or Rai in an effort to maintain it's position, This sort of focus on a few characters may work for DC with it's continued number of Batman books. Recognising that a change is may be required, I feel that Roku could be a missed opportunity to develop something new, for a book that somehow stands on the shoulders of successful characters from other publishers. An okay mystery with some good action and long awaited development for a great character. The reason why the score for this book is so low is because everyone involved with this book is capable of doing better. Read Full Review
Out of all the number ones Valiant has released this year, Roku #1 is the least interesting. The plot never feels engaging, barely giving enough info to catch the reader's attention. It doesnt help that Roku feels so one-dimensional, and that she could be replaced with any other military character. Read Full Review
