If you have not tried out X-O Manowar yet this issue is the perfect jumping on point. There is a story summary on the first page to get new readers up to speed and once you try this action packed series I promise that you will have it in your pull box at your local comic shop the next day. Valiant is putting out some of the best comic books in the industry today and X-O Manowar is among the most enjoyable books being put out on a monthly basis. Trevor Hairsine handles art in this issue along with colors by Brian Reber. Overall, the issue looks pretty good. The aforementioned aliens getting cut in half looks amazing. Any time the armor is on and Aric is throwing down, things look great. That said, there are more than a few moments where the characters' faces don't look right. Eyes don't line up. Face shape seems off. It's minor, but you'll notice it. Fortunately, it doesn't completely bog down this issue. X-O Manowar still kicks butt. Bring on Planet Death. Read Full Review

My only concern with this book is the lack of world nations responding to Aric's acts of destruction. The guy leveled the Italian Coliseum and the British Intelligence headquarters"so where's the retaliation? Despite this, "Planet Death" is off to a strong start. Read Full Review

I enjoyed the idea of the armor having a mind of its own, sensing its destruction and going to great lengths to protect itself by using its human host. Some of the dialogue was rough around the edges, but bearable. Admiral Xylems dialogue seemed too cartoony and clich for me. When I see Admiral Xylem, drawn by Travor Hairsines hands, I hear regal, elegant, but brute. Instead, we received the Im-going-to-destroy-the-world-muah-ha-ha villain. Yawn! Other than that, the rest of the story was solid. I critique a comic, or any story for that matter, by how badly I want to turn the page to find out what happens next. Every time I read X-O Manowar, although not perfect every single month, Im eager to learn what will happen next. Give this book a shot if youre into the superhero genre and want to take a small break from Marvel or DC. Lets give this underdog a chance to shine. Read Full Review
