This issue could easily be a stand alone volume and that would be fine. Rarely can that be said of a comic book let alone a number #0. But this book is as rare a treasure as any you will find. If you are a fan of valiant I don't have to say anything, you've probably already read or plan on reading this book. If you are not? Well what are you waiting for, if you love comics this book is too good to pass up. Great art, wonderful story, character development and true 4 color fun. Scoring this is a bit of a conundrum; if you're already readingX-O Manowar, then you can add another half point to the overall score and switch my recommendation to a read for this comic. If you're not already reading the series, then I'd highly encourage you to start, but probably not here; so pass, for now, on this comic. Instead look for either issue #39 (the start ofExodus) or issue #43 (the start of the next arc). You don't necessarily need to read the first trade (I haven't) to get an idea of the characters origin asValiant do a bang up job of catching you up on that with their recap pages. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar: Commander Trill #0 is an enjoyable storyline that enhances the ongoing X-O saga. Tying in with current events, it also shines a spotlight on an important antagonist, giving both him and his pathos understandable depth. X-O fans should definitely pick this one up. Read Full Review
I have to admit, I am a little surprised that Valiant had to resort to a zero issue. The series is strong enough for Aric to take a back seat and this tale be incorporated into the main book. I guess it's easier to promote an “All New Zero Issue”, than a “Jumping on Point”. Whatever the rationale, Venditti and Portela have put together a solid companion piece, that should appeal to long-term and newer fans. Read Full Review
Perhaps the most interesting thing aboutCommander Trill #0 is that X-O Manowar's greatest threat can be seen as a hero from the right perspective. After all, who is considered "good" and "evil" can at times be a matter of perspective. Though his unwavering sense of duty makes him appear villainous, one can see how " to his own people " he might be considered heroic. Read Full Review

Cammander Trill's origin really did not need its own issue if this is it; it could have been told in a few pages since it is incredibly simplistic. The only reason I can think to print this is as a backwards way to retell X-O's origin for new readers. If you've been reading X-O from the start, this turns out to be a money grab.
