X-O Manowar: Valiant 25th Anniversary Special #1 isan engrossing issue that does an excellent job with Shanhara's character development making the armor more intriguing with a touching story. The history of Shanhara's transformation as well as the Vine's subsequent worship is detailed in an entertaining way that sheds light on the Vine's behavior and Aric being chosen. I've been enjoying X-O Manowar and looking forward to every issue, and now I'm even more excited about what lies ahead for Aric and his unique armor, Shanhara. Read Full Review

Venditti leans a little too hard on the whole "Chosen One" motif while wrapping up the issue, but it leads to the introduction of Aric near the end and Cafu and Reber's rendition of him in action with the armor for the first time caps off the story with an epic conclusion. "X-O Manowar: Valiant 25th Anniversary Special" #1 is an essential chapter in the X-O Manowar mythos, both as a key moment in the character's history and as a worthwhile reading experience. Basically, there's not much to say about this issue other than, if you're a big Valiant/Manowar fan, pick this up. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. If you're not, maybe read some other Valiant comics before jumping in on this. Read Full Review
Not much to say here really. I enjoyed this even though it's 75% well-worn road, but I could see how, if you are already familiar with the story, you wouldn't really extract all that much from it. That would be my only criticism is that your mileage may vary depending on your own familiarity with the books lore. I could easily see, if somebody was very invested into the lore, how they might feel ripped off reading 23 pages of which only roughly 5 were things you didn't know even if the remainder was told from a different viewpoint that it was originally. I, personally, would recommend this for old and new readers a like even if they could have bolstered the page count with a B-Story or an art gallery. Read Full Review
