The story is perfectly suited for Allreds pop art/hipster style of artwork. Ellies go-go girl outfit and hairdo, Spots grunge inspired look, and Gwens modern alt-rock girl ensemble all capture and reflect each characters personality and supernatural condition. Allreds work is always a refreshing experience when showcased in a book like this, and is a welcome break from the dominant superhero/sci-fi realism based work that is the standard in most comics today. But if part of the test of any debut issue is whether it provides enough reasons to come back for a second read, then I, Zombie #1 must be considered a partial success at the very least. Even with its unfortunate tardiness, Roberson's hook was strong enough to pique my interest, and Allred's pop-art style is always a huge asset to any story he illustrates. I'll come back for more, but with a strong urge to see Roberson do a better job of getting to the damn point in future issues. Read Full Review

You can't go wrong with a one dollar first issue and "I, Zombie" #1 isn't one to grab your right away, but with art from the Allreds and a few interesting moments, this issue shows that the series has potential. Read Full Review
Michael Allred's art (yes he's normally known as Mike, but he is credited as Michael in this issue) in partnership with his wife Laura on colors bring out their usual clean and not over-busy style to make the artwork really shine but the whole package is not enough to make me buy next issue. Needless to say I did not enjoy this issue. I found the writing to be boring and predictable which greatly surprised me. I enjoyed Chris Roberson's work in "Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love". That series was a home run for me but I will pass on this title. I give "I, Zombie" 1 out of 5 stars. Read Full Review
