As has been the case in previous issues, Lemire's influences pop up in exciting, unexpected ways, and it's fun to see elements of films like The Road Warrior reflected through this world's twisted, funhouse mirror. When a lesser artist tries his hand at the familiar tropes of the post-apocalyptic genre, the results can often come off as uninspired and trite. That's not at all the case with this series and this issue, though, as Lemire takes the familiar idea of a band of bloodthirsty apocalypse survivors and makes it wholly new and terrifying all over again.
