Tom King seems to treat even his extended runs as out-of-continuity Vertigo titles. As a result, you never know which aspects are to be considered canon or not. From Batman, for example, Alfred is still dead, but Bruce and Selina aren't married. I can see how this could be a frustrating and dissatisfying turn off for some readers, seeing core titles being treated as offshoots for several years. And waiting for a payoff from a King title can be the longest of waits. It looks like next issue we might finally learn something the about the amazon who started this whole mess in the first issue two whole years ago! I almost gave up on this run for that reason.

But this style of storytelling has grown on me. I am appreciating the scope of the epic being constructed. I am appreciating this storyline in particular because it's nice to see more of Diana in action then we had been. And of course, the theme of restrictive authoritarianism feels exceptionally relevant. I continue to be curious where this series is going, and the style of how it's getting there is certainly unlike any other comics I know of. The latter is likely the reason for its two (so far) consecutive Eisner nominations for Continuing Series. more

First of all, I've always been more of an upper body guy, but Alan Scott's lower body on this cover is slammin'! Definite muscle bear vibes. Thank you, Kris Anka.

My favorite part of this issue was/were the different visions of what a freer, safer, and/or more inclusive world would look like for each of these characters. I also love the sense of community and shared perseverance.

When I see stories of older folks coming out, I sometimes wonder how something so important could be left unacknowledged for so long. So it was great to have Jenny Blake/Tony Isabella let us in on the process of her (their?) late-in-life transition.

The last six pages of fans telling their stories lets us know why representation like this is so important. Personally, I don't really have a story of how DC comics helped me in my own queer journey. I was already out long before any of that was being published. But I will say this: Mike Grell drew sexy men, and the cover of Green Lantern 110 made me feel some kind of something even at age 9. If I ever live in a big enough space that I can have a comics room, I'll get that cover blown up and framed. more
