First of all, I've always been more of an upper body guy, but Alan Scott's lower body on this cover is slammin'! Definite muscle bear vibes. Thank you, Kris Anka. My favorite part of this issue was/were the different visions of what a freer, safer, and/or more inclusive world would look like for each of these characters. I also love the sense of community and shared perseverance. When I see stories of older folks coming out, I sometimes wonder how something so important could be left unacknowledged for so long. So it was great to have Jenny Blake/Tony Isabella let us in on the process of her (their?) late-in-life transition. The last six pages of fans telling their stories lets us know why representation like this is so important. Personally, I don't really have a story of how DC comics helped me in my own queer journey. I was already out long before any of that was being published. But I will say this: Mike Grell drew sexy men, and the cover of Green Lantern 110 made me feel some kind of something even at age 9. If I ever live in a big enough space that I can have a comics room, I'll get that cover blown up and framed. |
