Murder Falcon is awesome! The art is kinetic and fluid, reminiscent of Paul Pope's work, but cleaner and somehow more dynamic.
The issue tells the story of Jake, a prodigious metal guitar player who is clearly suffering from some trauma and grief, the source of which is slowly revealed throughout the issue.
One night, after dinner with a friend, Jake is attacked by a monster in his home. He picks up he guitar to smash the beast, when something strange happens: there is a flash of lightning and then an anthropomorphic falcon with a metal arm--Murder Falcon--is in his home and fighting the monster. He tells Jake to play, Jake plays, powering MF who beats the monster to death.
And now, together they fight monsters with the power of metal.
This issue is a spectacular introduction to the world. It is full of action and excitement and has a fun premise that is perfect for the comic book medium.
Aside from the action and the heavy metal, there is heart to this book.
Jake is grieving and trying to pick up the pieces of his life and he is unsure of how to do that or even if he can.
This book is definitely worth your time and money. Pick it up and subscribe. It is highly entertaining and looks to use that high octane action to explore how we deal with grief and put our lives back together after its been shattered by circumstances beyond our control. more
