The only difference between this issue and every other monster Mag you’ve ever read is that these monsters are giant spiders. They aren’t particularly interesting spiders, there’s no interesting mystery set up around them, and the monster hunter character has no describable traits you haven’t seen done better thousands of times. The protagonist we follow as he discovers the dark truth (which is that there are giant spiders) is thoroughly unlikable. The art is good, but not worth the $4 comics go for these days. |

Too on-the-nose for my liking. The idea of terrors and those who are tasks with killing them is unique and compelling, but economic hierarchical distopias alla Snowpiercer always feel heavy-handed to me and I can't get passed it. Plus the members of our plucky band of mercs are nothing new, even if they are outwardly more diverse than most comic book teams in the past. I don't think I'll be reading issue 2, even though the art and writing are quite good. I just find that I dont really care.... Sorry, Ahmed and Acosta! |

I always love the Space Western genre, so I was very excited for this direction for the Guardians. Unfortunately, I found the pace too fast and the dialogue too awkward so that reading was not easy and the relationship between the characters didn’t feel present. I hope #2 expends what worked and leaves what didn’t. I will be reading it. |

Love the story. Always exciting. Lots of fun moments. Good balance of interpersonal stuff and action pieces. The dialogue can be pretty... cringe at times, though. |

Another fine book by Zdarsky, but can we stop trying to "drag" Matt "lower?!" I need to be able to root for my heros, and it's hard to do that when I know their writers have it in for them! (Wells, I'm looking at you!) |

So weird, but super compelling. Outstanding art. Tynion, as always, writes dialogue that flows so naturally. I always love the concept of a memetic horror. Can't wait to see where this goes. |

Just when you think it’s just a compelling crime drama with several well developed characters, BAM, it’s also a hero Mag. I love when new takes on caped crusaders are unique without being totally cynical. I’m so excited to see what’s next! |

The Nice House on the Lake #12

This entire series is perfection and I hope that it continues. At the same time, it is perfect and whole and needs nothing else. It transcends genre, it surpasses all expectation. I’ve recommended it to people who never read comics and they’ve all loved it. I frequently exclaimed out loud while reading because it affected me in ways that had to be expressed. The most perfect series I’ve read since Saga (pre hiatus). A must read! |
