Moon Knight (2014) #1

Mar 30, 2014

The art by Declan Shalvey is what took me in. Following his work since his great run on Thunderbolts he gets more and more credit for his moody, expressive work. Complimented bij his girlfriend colorist Bellaire its is a comic to behold. But the story? Another thing. It set up Marc Spector as an eccentric madman (cool limo) who's depiction was freshly different then usual but the in the second half of the comic the comic falters. Noo! Not another S.H.I.E.L.D lab unaccounted for. Not by it's artwork, which is monumental, soulful but by the uneven ending of another forgettable bad guy who has no reason for being at all. I wonder if Moon Knight wil be fighting a 'trouble of the week' or what there will be an overall story. I expect the story to pick up and mirror the complexity of the artwork more. Great work by the creative staff (is that the same letterer from Thunderbolts?) but right now Moon Knight is more style than substance. For a first issue it could have been meatier and pointier. Declan saved the story by his clever and grand depiction.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man #9

Mar 30, 2014

The story continues with character driven twists and in-depth clever depiction of our our Foes. The color art works wonders and gives shine to the numerous details bij Lieber. Be it a trophy in Shocker's living room or the recurrent gag of the movie An Ugly Truth. The muted tone contrasts the colorful characters well. The story manages to surprise, delight and keeps us on our toes. How will all the plots tie together? It is a compliment how both Spencer and Lieber a manage to continue the overall story while giving us a meaty comic with proper continuation, characterization whilst dropping hits of things to come. Great work. The cover art is a monumental piece of art. Attention to detail is found in the smaller depiction of the logo to make the best of the page. Colour and linework look natural. If that is the case it is the best art it can be. There are nods in the cover which regular readers will pick up, like the puppy and Speed Demon (which he stole and came to love), Overdrive with his car, Beetle with her Phone and Shocker who has a reputation for cowardice. Recommended.
