Great issue. Waid knows how to take a back seat and allow Samnee to do the work and it turned out brilliant. Samnee really is enjoying toying around with Matt's senses in the art like giving each sense it's own panel while as though it's part of a whole which gives you the feel of how Matt's senses work together to give him the whole picture. The design of Ikari is simple yet particularly devastating to Matt. Mostly action in here but the narrative of Matt's arrogance is present and the outcome makes you feel it in your soul while you pick up your jaw off the floor. Seriously, why aren't you reading this yet? If you are already reading this then you definitely don't need a review to tell you that this is an amazing issue. |

Javier does a great job filling in for Samnee. Story is still as awesome as usual. My favorite part about Waid's writing is that you feel a lot happens in each issue. After reading Bendis style decompressed writing for so long it's nice to have a bit more fast paced issue. Also great cliff hanger and great set up for the next arc. |

Fancavilla usually can make any mediocre book pretty good with his art. His writing is definitely above average and combined with his art it's just phenomenal. Much like the rest of the series there is very little dialogue so most of the writing is in the Beetle's narration which isn't long winded and is short and sweet. The art is very simple and really matches the pulpy crime feel to it. He definitely knows how to set up his panels. Like the beginning is very organized in the club which allows you to quickly run through it like the fast paced feel a club usually gives while at the same time giving focus to the small details that a detective would notice as he looks around a club. Then when he gets into fights the panels are tilted giving the feel of confusion or disorientation that comes in a fight. If you haven't started this yet, you should! |
