Action Comics (2016) #1028

Dec 24, 2020

Solid epilogue. I hope to see JR JR and Bendis back on this title somewhere down the line. Olsen and Luthor being related was a cool little Flash Fact to takeaway from the book , but seeing Jimmy in charge was just about all that mattered. I could care less about this iteration of Superboy. I personally champion the Geoff Johns Connor Kent over any other Boy of Steel. At least that one never went on any goofy adventures with the Legion. Plus I read "Death Metal Secret Origin" prior to picking this up so I was decisively jaded to see this Superboy get a happy ending when in "Secret Origin" he was essentially bullying Prime. And if there's one thing Superman books have taught me : it's not to cheer for bullies.

Batman Beyond (2016) #50

Not a bad ending. Good to see Wonder Woman back, but I would have rather her resemble how she looked in previous "Beyond" series', than her current film iteration. Such a Marvel thing to do - that didn't really fit into what DC is known for. This issue felt more like a promo for "WW1984" than a Batman Beyond send off. Still, Jurgens behind the pen and Inque chosen as the main villain was enough throwback to keep me engaged in another plot where Bruce Wayne is mortally threatened by medical complications due to his old age. I love this corner of the DCU want to see another Justice League Beyond book or any of their members get a solo , hell, bring back Zeta - but I'm good on another Batman Beyond title after this 32 page Wonder Woman 1984 ad.

Red Hood and the Outlaws (2016) #52

Dec 24, 2020

The blaxplotation saga of Red Hood continues ! Of course , I love how the female characters were drawn , but what was the point of this two-issue arc , if not to pander to Afro-readers ? I'm here for it, but to be a conscious effort , the story should have been longer than just a throwaway postscript after "Outlaw" ended.

King In Black #2

Two issues deep and things just seem to be getting worser for the heroes. I like how Cates has written tnese heroes into a corner, and it looks like it's getting worse. Brock has fallen for at least 3 issues, I have never seen anything like that before. That was beautiful. The powers of Eddie's son was a surprise , but more so was Spidey's spider-sense working to warn him of the symbiotes. I thought Klyntarian's went undetected? To see Spidey worried and completely alone, not even able to get help as he saved Eddie. Perfect. The bickering between Blade and the Quiet Council made my stomach turn. I can only wander where the mutants will take it from here, since Storm was captured ...

Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Secret Origin #1

Dec 24, 2020

By far this is the best issue I have read in this series. Barely a Batman in sight, as the jaded Superboy Prime gets his redemption story. Not knowing the full origins of this character, it was as if I was being reintroduced. "Secret Origin" is the other side of the mirror to "Infinite Crisis". Truly this is the best for last, as the main issues of Death Metal , have been at it's worst confusing. I am not a big fan of Snyder's pen, so the Johns taking over on this issue was more than welcome. This is Death Metal's finest.
