Green Arrow (2011): Futures End #1
Sep 8, 2014 |
If you are following Future's End or just a fan of the Lemire/ Sorrentino run on Green Arrow, then you should pick this book up. It actually ties in pretty well with the Future's End story overall and parts of it had some awesome fan service to those who have been actually following Green Arrow. At least one DC one-shot this month is worth getting. |

Batman (2011) #32
Jun 28, 2014 |
There really isn't anything bad with the issue itself. Its beautifully drawn and well written, as always. Sure, some of the twists were things we have seen before, but it was still done well. The problem with this story line is and forever will be the necessity of it and whether it was worth halting an entire year's worth of current Batman stories for this one origin story. That's an argument for a different column, though. Here I am just supposed to tell you what I thought of the issue at hand and I say its a good read. |

This issue is amazing. It is great seeing the Dark Knight getting back to what he does best and it certainly helps that Matteo Scalera was here this month to dazzle us with his art. What more do you want from a Batman comic? |

If you love crazy, zany concepts and characters, but also have a semi decent knowledge of DC as a whole, then I would say you should definite pick Multiversity #1 up. If you are brand new to comics, then you might want to wait on reading this one. It is a bit like jumping straight into the deep end and not knowing how to swim. Oh, and the pool has sharks. I like sharks. |

I'm a sucker for space, psychological horror, and the amazing artwork of Sean Phillips, so Void is right up my alley. If any of those things appeal to you too and you have an extra ten bucks in your pocket then I highly recommend this book. It is dark, disturbing, and yet still a lot of fun. |

This isn't necessarily bad, but just something that annoys me. Is it just me, or do James Gordon, James Jr, and Lt. Bard all look pretty much the same? I get James Jr. looking like his dad. That makes sense. I just think that if you put James Jr. and Bard in a lineup that you could not tell them apart. Minor complaint. That's all I got for this one. |

I really love Andrea Sorrentino's art, so that is a plus to me, but I know the art can be divisive for others. Other than that, this book is pretty great. It might fall into the problem eventually of just making everything too dire and sucking all the fun out of the proceedings, but right now Lemire has hit a comfortable middle ground. |

I don't like the look of the new Power Ring. She looks too much like a flower child hippie to me and I'm sorry, but I just cannot take her seriously as a destroyer of worlds like the Power Ring itself actually says she will be. I'm also afraid the book is about to get way too overcrowded soon. Johns reintroduced a team of heroes in this issue and i'm afraid either they, or more likely the actual Justice League, will be lost in the shuffle of big event storytelling. |

Supergirl and Superdoom Superman had a very interesting interaction, but something was just off. Superman acted shocked when he saw her as a Red Lantern even though an entire issue of Red Lanterns was devoted to having Guy Gardener explain to Superman about Red Lantern Supergirl. Supergirl's reaction to Superman was a little odd too. I know she is trying to help him make the best of a bad situation, but he is infected with freaking Doomsday. No good is gonna come out of that. |

The art in this book is some of the best in comics today. That by itself is a reason to pick this book up. For the most part, Icarus has been a fun, exciting ride, but Manapul and Buccellato crash in the end because DC didn't give them the room they needed to land. That said, this creative team till has me excited about the future of this title and I can't wait to read more. |

The story isn't bad, per se. It has some interesting ideas, but most of them just plain didn't work. Patty getting pissed at Barry for hunting down the serial killer and taking an at risk kid to a baseball game was just stupid. It was just an artificial way to raise the emotional stakes of the book, and it was just bad. The writers still haven't given me a reason to care about Wally other than the fact he shares a name with a popular speedster that i like. The time travel stuff is cool, but underdeveloped. There is just something missing that will click all of this together and make it great. Until then, it is just okay. |

Green Lantern (2011) #33

The ending to this issue is just terrible. They basically end the entire Uprising story in this issue in a satisfying way only to have another lantern pop up out of no where to tell us something else is wrong in the most vague way possible. This really just does nothing but piss me off. It's a very poor hook to get me to buy Green Lantern Corp next week that would not have worked if I didn't already pull it every month. Its a good thing this issue was just one long fight scene because the issue would have been terrible if that kind of sloppy witting was present throughout the book. I've also never really found the Durlans to be that compelling, so their defeat here, while fun to watch, didn't really resonate with me in any profound way. |

As I said before, this is the issue where the bad guy reveals his master plan. As such, The Wolf is a little over written this month. None of the dialogue was bad, there was just way too much of it.
