This first issue packs a ton of story in while introducing readers to a brand new world. The hook at the end will keep you coming back for more. Even though I don't typically read sci-fi, I enjoy a well plotted mystery and interesting relationships. As an added bonus, the aliens are majorly cool. I hate to gloss over the art as much as I do, but I found it to be effective without being distracting and entirely appropriate for the genre. Dark Horse doesn't do a ton of new IPs these days, so I found "Deep Gravity" to be a fun and refreshing read.

"POP" is uniquely enjoyable and critically important. Even if you think Pires is overly cynical you have to appreciate the initiative. Anyone that tries to wake people up and make them think is a hero to me. No matter how the rest of it plays out, this book won't soon be forgotten.

There is so much intrigue and awesomeness packed into the first issue that I am sincerely out-of-my-mind nerdgasming for more. There are some suggestions as to where the other series will come in, and I can only hope it is all as well planned and executed as this first issue. It is too soon to tell a lot, but not too soon to get excited. This is going to be one hell of a ride.

This book continues to earn top marks for consistently delivering on its promises. Not a line of dialogue is out of place, none of the characters ever do anything to to act like anyone other than themselves, the art never feels rushed or less than meticulously constructed. This book has a well defined style and genre and fits it to a T. It may not be for everyone, but it sure as hell is for me

It going to take a lot more to deal with these people, and, without spoiling the last page, Aaron is setting something up that I think will be pretty profound, if not more horrible than anything that has happened yet. I love this book. I think it can be appreciated on a social level even if you have no exposure to this particular culture. It is an archetypal story, I can't wait to see how fucked up things can get.

Don't let me scare you away from the book. It is confusing, no doubt. There is a lot to take in, but that just means there is a lot to appreciate. This is a complex story that, I think, is going to slowly come together and really reward those willing to figure it all out. If you are looking for something totally new, check out "Trees" #2, it's an exotic cuisine.
