All-New X-Men (2015) #4

Feb 22, 2016

In this issue they re-establish who Wolverine is and what she means to the X-Men. This is done while examining her relationship with Angel. However Angel is a whiner who appears to be very insecure. It doesn't ring true for an X-Man.

Black Enchantress #4

Jan 11, 2016

Then get ready to meet Doctor Arcane's newest girlfriend, the demonic WitchGirl DANIELLE. In her civilian identity, she's a high-priced lawyer, but she's also a genuine princess of Hell!Heroic always puts out a good comic. It's a solid old school comic. With solid storytelling and art. This is no exception. We get to see Enchantress battle the Gods of Olympus in a well crafted story that has plenty of room to continue the subplots into future issues of Enchantres. In the second story we have the begging of a multi part tale that brings Enchantress into conflict with Mister Monocle. If your a Heroic fan this is everything you want from your comics, if you haven't read anything from heroic, pick it up Black Enchantress and give it a try.

Captain Canuck #3

Captain Canuck #4

Oct 1, 2015

Back Up – ARMED & DANGEROUS Part 2This is a nice change of pace from the main story. The art is more cartoony and the story is humorous in tone. Hammer is an over the top cartoon villain and provides an entertaining although not to serious treat to Captain Canuck. There are car truck chases, car truck wrecks a fight and the police show up. Everything you could want in a short story.

“Double Star Crossed Part 2” Captured by aliens intent on killing him, Classic Captain Canuck is about to die. It's all out action and space adventure and Classic Captain Canuck fleas from his alien captures into the pages of Classic Captain Canuck #1 on sale in March. I am not sure how a feel about this story. It was all chase, but I am looking forward to seeing Classic in his own comic where he will have a larger page count.

Dreaming Eagles #1

Jan 2, 2016

This is a touching story of the Tuskegee Airmen. If you haven't seen the movie Red Tails we will wait for you and then continue the review. This story starts in 1966 a challenging year to be a black man in America. Mr. Atkinson had been a Tuskegee Airmen and he had been able to provide a middle class lifestyle for his family but couldn't talk to them about the horrors of war. His son was enamored with Martin Luther King. The story never gets to the actual talk about the war, it mostly focuses on Mr. Atkinson and his relationship with his son. It is about the difficulty people have in communicating unpleasant experiences, the hubris of youth and the struggle for equality.

Green Lantern: The Lost Army #6

Nov 20, 2015

However the real problem with this comic is it's part 6 of a mini-series and this is not the end. There should be a conclusion to the story in the last issue. However there is no conclusion at all. Krona and Relic find out John has been lying to them the entire time and … to be continues in Green Lantern Corp: Edge of Oblivion #1. What type of editorial crap is this? It's cool to start over with a number 1 when you end the story but to do it with a cliffhanger is wrong. They want to tell this story to sell the TPB but sales are slipping so they do a new number 1 in the middle of the story. Although I will be picking up Edge of Oblivion #1 it should be Lost Army #7. What's next? Will every issue be a #1?

InSEXts #1

Jan 2, 2016

It's 1894 London and we begin with a lesbian kiss between Lady Bertram and her servant Mariah. This leads to a very passionate and graphic lesbian sex scene. Shortly afterwards there is another sex scene between Lord and Lady Bertram. This leads to a moment the looks like it came from the movie alien. There was a lot of sex and some violence. The story is intriguing and I have no idea where it is going next. It left me wanting more at the end of the first chapter and that is all I could ask for from a comic.

Jughead (2015) #1

Oct 4, 2015

This book is kind of the middle ground between the all new and the old. It has the look an feel of the All New Archie but it is more cartoony. The humor starts of light and funny like a sit com, them moves into the more Archie like humor was the story kicks into high gear. At the heart of the story something strange happens to Mr. Weatherbee. Also something strange happens to the school lunch and that's no laughing matter for Jughead. In the middle of the story we have a “Game of Jones” interlude and that's just pure fun and food. After that it a game of wits between Jughead and Mr. Strange and round one goes to Juggy but that is just the first battle in the war. It's the most fun I have had with Jugghead ever! An Outstanding start, I loved it! Plus there is a cool classic back-up story too.

Lives #1

Dec 20, 2015

This was a powerful story told in black and white. The comic follows five different people on September 11th, before the World Trade Center Tragedy. It is mostly non-text and that only leads to the emotionof the piece. Everyone is wrapped up in their own lives and make hard choices. Those choices have consequences. Lives is exactly that it shows the choices people make and the consequences of those choices. That is all overshadowed by the jets crashing into the World Trade Center making all of the previous important decision seem smaller and less important. I wasn't sure what to expect from lives because I knew so little about the project before reading the OGN. After reading it all I can say is “wow” you should read it too!

Mercy Sparx #10

Dec 25, 2015

The art is great, Matt Merhoff's work is beautiful and he makes some very smart artistic choices to give Mercy a real world feel. I like that Archangel Michael is black, why do most people draw the angels as only white guys? The comic is filled with sex, violence, and religion. The story was short but as a first issue for me I was easily able to follow and it left me wanting more and waiting for the next issue.

Narcopolis Continuum #1

Dec 1, 2015

I have to point out that color in a comic is always a plus for me, and I usually don't notice the coloring. It's one of those things that if it is done well I don't think about it, but if it is done poorly I really notice. In this caseNicolas Chapuis did an outstanding job with the colors. While the background is almost exclusively blue, surprisingly everything everywhere is blue. When you get to the people there are a variety of light sources casting different shades in different angles. It is amazingly good.Ralf Singh art is very open and the line work has the same weight on every line,Nicolas Chapuis comes along and adds depth, light and shadow to the art in a way usually done by inkers. The final result is very good and well suited to the sci-fi genre.

Id also like to point out, in this issue, Andres Esparza works alone. And, there is a visible differencejagged and scratchylike, Curiel muted his tone. Considering the classic monster elements of this series, the grittier art adds to that look. And; rather preferable.

Jan 2, 2016

Trevor Churchill lives in a world that is a cross between Blade Runner and Total Recall. He decides the best idea would be to clone himself, but instead of an exact clone he has about 30 variations all different. Trevor labels them on their forehead for easy recognition. The aliens are cool, the replicas are different especially #2 who wants to be called Roger. Trevor doesn't appear to have any better luck as a detective when he is partnering with himself. What would it be like to have 30 non-identical replicas of yourself? I guess we will find out in the pages of Replica.

Serving Supes #2

Dec 20, 2015

Cheech and Clive OHuang are back and just as incompetent as ever. Nothing stands in their way to serve the super powered and to make sure they have their day in court. Cheech and Clive find out what it's like to be stabbed in the head and as a learning experience, the two find out how important it is to read everything very closely. The over the top humor appears to be a thing at First Comics as both this comic and Public Relations have heroes who are more comedic and less confrontational. Public Relations is both cute and silly. A must have for slapstick humor fans.

Spirit Leaves #1

Dec 24, 2015

I have to start out by saying the art is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. The story is about a Shaman Deer Girl and a Wolf boy. Now wolves usually eat deer so we will see where this goes. The art doesn't flow in a panel by panel grid like most comics. Here both the story and storytelling are much more fluid then most comic fans are used to seeing. The story is mystical and the art supports the story style very well. The text is sparse but is presented in a way that flows with the story. If you like magic, elves and fantasy this is the comic for you. This also may be the comic that gets your girlfriend to like comics if that is a problem for you.

Superzero #1

Jan 2, 2016

Dru wants to be a superhero, don't we all? There is a mix of Dru daydreaming about being a superhero and living the life of a teenager. It has a sort ofSecret Life of Walter Mitty feel for all the Ben Stiller fans out there. It was a fun and interesting start. This was my fourth Aftershock comic in a row. They all have a different flavor and this is the only superhero comic in the bunch and it is a comedy. If you like lighthearted superheroes this is really the comic for you. I suspect that there is more to Dru then meets the eye, but that will unfold in future issues.

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #93

Oct 3, 2015

Skeleton Man loosed his head as Azure litteraly slices off the top of his head with a broadsword. Skeleton Man, Tarot, Raven Hex, Tarot's Mother and even Pooka battle Azure. At the end of the battle, Skeleton man is bald and covered in snott, at the moment he desides to propose to Tarot. You will have to buy to comic to find out what she said. It's fun and silly despite the fact that the story deals with facing your greatest fears. As always it's not for everyone but if you ever liked Tarot before how can you miss Jon's proposal?

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #94

Oct 3, 2015

Skeleton Man faces his ex-girl friend Crypt Chick and lets her know he is going to marry Tarot. Skeleton Man and Crypt Chick have to battle their way out of the grave yard as the Shrouds attack. Meanwhile Boo brings Tarot a new magic wand, while Raven Hex faces a challenge to her status and intentions after the death of the Dark Elf Azure. Tarot is a fun lighthearted comic, it is not for everyone and clearly not all ages. But if you are a fan of this type of comic, this is as good as it gets.

Oct 17, 2015

She appears to be hunted by the government, but it's not entirely clear right now how that happened. There is cover action, secret shadowy agents, a hint of conspiracy, mystery, reincarnation and full on kick ass action. Adam & Chuck tell a compelling story and Drew knocks it out of the park with art that looks both realistic and exciting at the same time. You don't have to have any familiarity with the older Shield. This is an entirely new Shield and I give this my highest recommendation. You will love this first chapter.

Zombie Tramp (2014) #15

Oct 4, 2015

This issue continues Janey Belle's vacation from last issue. In the deep south the klan has come for Zombie Tramp. The questions is who is hunting who? The Klu Klux Klan, like the Nazis, make the best villains because there is no counter argument. No one says “the Klan, they're just miss understood”. NO, they are a bunch of Fucking racist with no redeeming value. So in this issue Janey can go hog wild hunting, killing and maiming the Klansmen. In addition to the hunt, there are daemons, magic and guts. For anyone who ever says Zombie Tramp is all T&A they are wrong. Zombie Tramp is tits and ass AND kick-ass graphic violence to people who really deserve it. The whole thing is just a lot of fun. This comic isn't for everyone. But if you are the target demographic this comic is perfect.
