If fanservice and nostalgia are not your thing, this book likely won't be either. However, if you're interested in Claremont's writing and his journey as a writer, the anniversary special may offer a decent amount of value. |

Silver Surfer: Rebirth (2022) #1 |
Jan 18, 2022 |
Silver Surfer: Rebirth thus far is off to a strong start, and you likely should enjoy it if you're a fan of the 90's Surfer comics. This is a book that offers cosmic action and spectacle in the classic style, featuring a return of old favorites in a new context. Even if you haven't read those stories, this book is still accessible, and it does a good job of introducing these characters if you're new to them. Marz and Lim are still a good, strong team on Marvel Cosmic titles, and the story feels in many ways as though they never left. I look forward to seeing what else this mini has to offer, and any other cosmic stories that this team has to offer in the future. |

Devil's Reign (2021) #1 |
Dec 5, 2021 |
If you're a fan of the ongoing Daredevil series, Devil's Reign is a must-read, and you should be satisfied with it as a Daredevil story. Fans coming into this without having read that book will struggle somewhat more to catch up, but the story leaves enough there to figure out the basics. I find that Devilu2019s Reign works best if you think of it as the next chapter in Zdarsky and Checchettou's run on Daredevil, just one that happens to have wider ramifications for the Marvel heroes. |

MacBeth (2023) OGN |
Jun 2, 2023 |
As someone who has studied Shakespeare for many years, I'm pleased with how this version of Macbeth turned out. This book may not be for everyone, partly because of the content and partly because of the experimental nature of the art, but I think it will satisfy those who the book is aimed for. I appreciate the level of visual creativity that Briggs puts into this comic, not least because it isn't easy to find new ways to tell a story that has been reinterpreted for over five hundred years. If you're a fan of Shakespeare and looking for a different take on a classic, this is a comic that's worth looking into. |

Shang-Chi (2020) #1 |
Sep 28, 2020 |
As a longtime fan of the Master of Kung Fu, I'm more than satisfied with the start of this series. If you've enjoyed past Shang-Chi series, you should get enjoyment from this series. If you've enjoyed Gene Yang's work at DC and hope to see what he's capable of at Marvel, you should likewise get a satisfying reading experience from this issue. If you're new to this character and want to get a sense of who Shang-Chi is before the movie arrives, this is a good place to start. Regardless, I strongly suggest not missing out on Shang-Chi, because this could end up as one of Marvel's stronger books in the months to come. |
