Aquaman (2011) #1

Sep 30, 2011

Overall Aquaman's new series has a lot of promise and I can't wait to read issue #2. I have faith in Geoff Johns to reestablish Aquaman as a big part of the DC Universe, much like he did with Hal Jordan and Barry Allen.

Borderlands Origins #1

Sep 19, 2012

As a Borderlands fan I was excited to read Borderlands Origins #1, but in the end it just didn't have enough substance for me to recommend other fans to buy. Thankfully, you can download the issue for FREE if you have a digital comic reader such as Comixology. The free price tag goes a long way in making this an easy recommendation to any interested in the Borderlands characters and their backstories, or those looking for something fun to read in their spare time.

Demon Knights #1

Sep 16, 2011

Overall I love the idea of a medieval team of characters who have been forced to come together to face a powerful enemy. I was not the biggest fan of the book when it was first announced, but in the end the first issue succeeds in doing what most cannot. It gives you just enough to keep you coming back for more.

Earth 2 #4

Aug 2, 2012

If you have been reading Earth 2 so far and patiently waiting for some action, this is the issue for you. All four heroes see a little action and readers get a little snippet of a big throw down in the next issue.

FF (2012) #1

Dec 4, 2012

Mike and Laura Allred of Madman fame are on art duty and they do a fantastic job! If you haven't bought this book yet you need to just so you can see Mike Allred's take on the Thing. It honestly looks like Jack Kirby rose from the grave to draw Ben Grimm one last time. It's that good. I think his Scott Lang looks a little too much like Madman with his helmet off, but that's not a big issue for me. Hopefully the Allred's stay on this book for a while, because I honestly think their art and colors are going to blend perfectly with all the weird sci-fi stories I'm sure Fraction is whipping up.

Flash (2011) #11

Jul 27, 2012

All in all if writers Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul continue to focus on Barry's interaction with the Rogues, both in and out of costume, this book should easily become one of the New 52s top books. I enjoy Barry Allen the crime scene scientist, but I'm enjoying Al the blue collar bartender even more. He feels eerily similar to Wally West the missing Flash..

Justice League (2011) #13

Oct 23, 2012

Tony S. Daniel takes over as the new artist on Justice League and for the most part I really like what he's bringing to the table. This issue features quite a bit of action and Daniel's art looks fluid and spectacular as all hell. However when the characters weren't jumping around the pages punching each other in the face, things looked a little off. Superman looks like a Gap model, the Flash has a weird glazed over look to his eyes, Col Trevor looks like he's going through chemotherapy, and Batman looks a little too Frank Millerish Dark Knight for my tastes. But it's not all bad, I really like his Wonder Woman and Cheetah. Mr. Daniel definately knowns how to draw female characters.

Justice League Dark Annual #1

Nov 5, 2012

This book is one of the big reasons why I love the New 52. Sure there have been glaring issues nad continuity errors in some books, but there's no way DC Comics would have been able to put out this comics in the pre reboot DC universe. For that, I thank them.

The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #1

Oct 3, 2011

Overall the story was fun outside of the crazy racial stuff and I think the book will be solid going forward if they can tone down that aspect. The small glimpse at the person who hired the assassins was pretty puzzling as far as the whole Firestorm concept goes (International nuclear man arms race?), and the ending has me interested in seeing what happens in issue two.

The Savage Hawkman #1

Sep 29, 2011

Overall I really liked this new Hawkman, but I wish they would have given me just a little bit more. As a life long Hawkman fan I am definitely checking out the second issue, but I can't help but wonder if they did enough to keep new fans hooked. Time will tell...
