J. Michael Straczynski - creator of Babylon 5, co-creator of Sense8, and writer of beloved runs on The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, and Superman: Earth One - returns to comics, teaming with Mike Deodato Jr. - the blockbuster artist of The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Infinity Wars. Together they plant the flag for a new universe of heroes and villains for the 21st Century. As governments around the world put pressure on newly-superpowered individuals, a few of the so-called "reborns" band together to demonstrate they won't take oppression lying down. Welcome to the Resistance. Hope you survive the experience.
The Resistance is shaping up to be one of the best comic series period. As the set up for AWA’s shared universe it’s doing a fantastic job. The writing is outstanding. The way the story comes together from smaller, human stories, sucks the reader in. The tales feel so real. The artwork is spectacular. Every single part of this comic is brilliant. This is 2020’s must read comic. If the quality of their releases so far are any indication AWA are going to be huge in a few years. On a slightly different note they’re also making some of their releases free online due to the coronavirus outbreak and availability issues, which is such an incredible move. Damn, this comic is amazing. This comic is insanely relevant to today, and as such feels so real. I buy every moment in this book because it all feels so grounded in a crazy world like ours. It's not afraid to draw parallels to today, but it does so in a real way that still makes sense and feels natural. I've used the world real alot here because that's the only way I know to describe it. I am confident this book will be in consideration for eisners next year after reading two issues. This is a must buy series for sure.
-Art continues to impress
-Straczynski builds up more interest in the politics, seems to have a more realistic approach to superheroes and does not try to over reach
-The world feels full and used
We continue with a broad focus of the larger societal implications of the pandemic and, worse, Trevor Lane's fascist agenda. It's bleak, but the resistance gives me hope.
