Yes, it is a horror flick gone horribly funny. Yes, it will more than likely hit on every zombie trope we've seen since 1968. Yes, there are going to be those that say this is the low point of Western Civilization, but dammit, for a dollar, this issue is so worth the price of admission, and I enjoyed reading it. Humphries' writing sets up the first issue apocalypse, while Gaylord brings some fantastic art. If you are a fan of the zombie genre, this title is worth picking up this week. I'm giving Fanboys vs. Zombies #1 4.5 out of 5 Stars. Read Full Review
While I'm hesitant about how this concept will hold up as an ongoing series, Fanboys vs. Zombies #1 is a strong debut issue, and is definitely worth checking out, especially as it only costs $1. Read Full Review
I realize this book is not going to be for everyone. It's got a snarky tone and it plays up on making fun of geeks. The characters could be facing any sort of disaster and still behave the exact same. They just so happen to be facing off with zombies. If you are looking for something fun to read and maybe laugh a little then I recommend checking this out. Plus, the issue is only a buck, so what do you have to lose? I know I am in for the long haul. Read Full Review
Overall, this comic is goofy fun and reminds you why comics were referred to as 'funny books', this light hearted laugh with a farcical idea (including the 'cause of the outbreak') is the kind of bonkers romp that there needs to be more of in modern comics. Just being plain FUN!! Read Full Review
If you have been to a comic book convention before I would say pick this issue up. You may really enjoy this if you keep in mind that this is suppose to be a light and fun series. But if you have never been to a convention I would say skip it. Read Full Review
In general I liked the book. I’m not in love with it, but I’ll definitely buy it. The sad thing about this series is that it does relate directly to nerds and comic readers, but just a few years too late. Find me one comic geek that isn’t sick to death of Zombies? You can’t! We all are sick of Zombies. I wonder if this book had just been based at Comic Con without Zombies if it wouldn’t have been better. I think I honestly would have bought that and liked it more. As good as this issue is it has a lot of flaws which prevent it from being better than average. If you’re dying to read it then go in with low impressions, better to be impressed after that than to be let down. Read Full Review
"Fanboys vs. Zombies" #1 feels like a generic zombie story with a slightly different window dressing. That places it in the middle of the pack, but in order to read more I'd like to see Humphries and Gaylord use their setting as more of a selling point. This could be a lot of fun, but right now it's just average. Read Full Review
