Magical meets modern in a walled city with strangely familiar architecture, where two small children with a sense of adventure get a grim reminder of reality....

Because every mistake one makes in this world will cause them to transform into a monster, bit by bit, and in the eyes of society, there's no distinction between the rules and what's right!

Imperfection breeds monstrous consequences in this urban fantasy adventure with deep social commentary from renowned and award-winning writer Greg Pak (Mech Cadets, Darth Vader, Planet Hulk) and acclaimed artist Diego Galindo (Stranger Things: The Voyage).

Pages and Panels - Seth A. Romo Jun 11, 2024

Don't expect action or intensity in this first issue. In fact, part of the charm is the lightness of the experience despite having deep themes. Unique and refreshing, Lawful isn't just an interesting story with remarkable art; it sparks conversations about underlying moral complexities and layers in its world and design. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Collier Jennings Jun 11, 2024

Lawful #1 explores the weight of society's expectations through a fantasy lens, resulting in a compelling debut. I have a feeling that this might impact how Dungeons & Dragons players approach their next campaignor that it might even inspire a few new ones. Read Full Review

Galindo creates some beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the story and how it mingles the visually strange within the world being created. Read Full Review

Lawful gets off to a strong start here. The first issue is complex, featuring a fascinating fictional world while offering commentary on the real one. Lawful #1 is an engrossing comic that will both amuse and inspire. Read Full Review

    Capes & Tights - Justin Soderberg Jun 9, 2024

Despite our minor criticism of Lawful #1, Greg Pak (Darth Vader, Firefly) and Diego Galindo (Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons ) give us a story where mistakes or even outright rule-breaking lead to growing a paw or scales or a tale is such a unique and wonderful idea for comics that it is hopeful this series will turn into a wonderful collection of comics. Pak is a wonderful writer and any comic in their hands is worth the read. Read Full Review

    Nerd Initiative - comicconcierge Jun 12, 2024

When it comes to a first issue the number one thing I look for is if it created intrigue, and as mentioned with the way this explores morality that was accomplished. The second part is if it has something that provokes a great deal of excitement and makes you want to read the second issue as quickly as possible. I cannot say this had that impact on me. Part of that may be by design as this is not trying to force in those big moments but rather be driven by character first. I could see that however when those big moments did happen I was left overwhelmed. Theres still enough here to bring me back for issue two as I hope the strengths are built upon as the narrative continues. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - Chase Magnett Jun 12, 2024

Writer Greg Pak and artist Diego Galindo's new urban fantasy series Lawful addresses these challenges admirably in a debut issue that effectively establishes the series' premise, even if it lacks depth that may still develop. Read Full Review
