In the isolated Montana town of Hailstone, food is running low. Trapped in by relentless snow, the hungry and desperate townspeople come into conflict with the well-stocked military factory. And to make matters worse, a local girl -- Mary -- has just disappeared. Sheriff Denton Ross and his deputy Tobias step in to keep the peace, but their efforts start them down a dangerous path of investigation; into Mary's disappearance, the factory, and just what it is doing here in this isolated place, so far from the war.

I really liked the dynamic the creative team has set for the book. There is a man vs man, man vs government, man vs nature, and a man vs self element to it. And usually, I would be overwhelmed with the bleakness of such a story but in this case, I'm intrigued to see what happens next. Read Full Review

Hailstone #1 is a great first issue to a series! The characters were interesting and engaging, I enjoyed the dynamic and tension between Sheriff Denton and Captain Spencer so I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes. Additionally, the mystery behind who is stealing the girls is intriguing especially with the possibility of the army being behind it or covering it up. Could it be some new experimental technology or something related to enhanced humans or beasts to help with the war effort in the south? All intriguing questions and I'm excited to be on this short five-part miniser more
Hailstone is a story that blends horror and the aesthetics of the western into one cohesive beast. centered on a town in 19th century america, an armies factory is in the town and for a frame of reference we are told that the civil war is currently taking place. A series of missing people has left the towns people searching for answers. The Sheriff of the town, being the beacon on stability faces his own crisis. That being, his inability to solve the mysteries, his own shortcomings and fears of the past. we see the sheriff in his only moments of being alone, he is seen sobbing.
