While the characters are excellent, and the smaller plot is nice, it hasn't been all that fleshed out. This is the first issue of a new arc, and the plotdoes seem interesting. However, this issue's largest weakness is its plot, which seems to jump around quite a bit, and doesn't really stabilize until the end of the issue. It's fast paced and entertaining, and the issue is lent depth by the characters, but the plot is a bit all over the place. Could it get better? It most definitely could, and my hope is that it does. A lot can go right, and a lot can go wrong with this new story arc. It's uncertain what the pay off will be from this story as a whole since only the beginning, though hopefully what happens here is something we can take as memorable going forward. Duffy Boudreau has a handle of giving the characters their own voices, though it all comes down to giving us something which sets this story apart from the previous story arcs in terms of moving us forward. Unfortunately, Escalations starts to backslide into old habits as the new team transitions in. The story is less of a focus than the action, as two new Spartan IVs named Ray and Thorne take the spotlight. Read Full Review
