Sent to kill Hellboy by the Baba Yaga in Darkness Calls, Koshchei the Deathless hinted at a long and tragic life before being enslaved to the Russian witch. Now, in a pub somewhere in Hell, Koshchei tells Hellboy about a dangerous mission when the witch sent him to hunt and destroy the last dragons before their eggs hatched.
Fans of Hellboy will want to check this out because it fleshes out another corner of the Mignolaverse. Those interested in folklore might also find this a fun little tale. Although the issue ends in heaps of blood and death, Koshchei the Deathless #2 feels very much like a sunny fairy tale told by Koshchei to Hellboy over a cold beer (if beer actually gets cold in Hell?).
